Alfa Romeo is an Italian luxury car model with a reputation for making fast and sporty vehicles. Unfortunately, even as a luxury brand, the vehicles aren’t foolproof. As they age, they require more repairs and servicing. The troubling part is that this often happens after your manufacturer’s warranty expires.
Well, there’s a way around those high repair bills. You can extend the warranty and have the manufacturer cover you for the unexpected repair costs. As part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Alfa Romeo vehicles are provided with an extended warranty under the Mopar Vehicle Protection (MVP).

What IS Included with the Alfa Romeo Extended Warranty
Under the MVP plan, you can drive with confidence knowing that you are protected against the costs of unexpected or unforeseen failures. The MVP plan lasts for eight years or 125,000 miles, and is calculated from the vehicle in-service date—the period when your odometer clocks 125,000 miles. Categories under the MVP plan include the Maximum Care, Added Care Plus, and Powertrain Care plans, all of which cover a variety of components as explained below.
- Component Coverage
The Maximum Care plan is the most comprehensive coverage since it provides protection for more than 5,000 components, including electrical, suspension, brakes, air conditioning, navigation systems, backup cameras, and powertrain components. This coverage is flexible and you can choose to shorten it to two years or to take the whole eight years.
Added Care Plus offers basic protection for more than 800 components, including the engine cooling system and high-tech components. This coverage is also flexible and you can choose a purchase plan that ranges from five to eight years.
The Powertrain Care Plus plan provides economical protection for 300 major components including the engine, transmission, and front-, rear- and all-wheel drive systems.
- Roadside Assistance
Both the Maximum Care and Added Care Plus plans cover include roadside assistance if you break down in the middle of the road. The customer will get $100 for every time they need roadside assistance services including a jump-start, towing, fuel delivery, spare tire installation, or lockout services.
If you are 100 miles from home and you break down from the failure of a covered part or component, you will receive up to $1,000 for hotel accommodations and meals.
- Extras
Regardless of the plan you choose, MVP will provide $35 per day (up to $175) for alternative means of transport in case you break down when the covered components fail. You also get $35 for a rental car whenever you bring your vehicle in for a covered repair or maintenance service.
Also, the Maximum Care plan will cover the repair or replacement of up to three key fobs, with a limit of $600.
What’s NOT Included with the Alfa Romeo Extended Warranty
There are a few restrictions in the warranty where the manufacturer doesn’t provide replacement or repair of wear items, or damages caused by alterations or modifications on the original body of the vehicle.
- Wear Items
The MVP doesn’t cover normal wear components such as the brake pads, the manual clutch assembly, upholstery, windshield wipers, and tires. Also, some components under the Maximum Care plan may not be repaired or replaced if the failure is caused by wear or tear. For instance, engine failure can also be attributed to wear and tear, and the claim may be rejected if the part that causes failure wore down and broke off.
- Others
The protection plans under the MVP only cover repair and replacement costs, but not routine maintenance services such as tune-ups, oil changes, or replacement of worn parts. It also doesn’t cover damages caused by negligence, and the policyholder will still be required to perform regular maintenance, preferably at an FCA dealer.
These limitations extend to damages caused by environmental conditions such as severe weather. Also, it doesn’t cover modifications involving non-Alfa Romeo parts or equipment.
Perks of the Alfa Romeo Extended Warranty
It gives you peace of mind knowing that you are covered regardless of the eventualities that may be caused by factory defects in material and workmanship. You don’t need to panic when you break down in the middle of the road or when the dashboard warning lights come on.
The MVP plan is quite long in comparison to what other manufacturers offer. If you manage to have most of the issues fixed within those eight years, you may not have to worry about frequent breakdowns and unexpected repair costs in the future. Also, you may not have to sell your car, as it will be reliable for a longer time.
Maintenance services are done at authorized dealerships by trained professionals. In the event that you can’t access your selling dealer, you are allowed to request services from any Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, or Ram dealer in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, or Mexico.
The MVP plan is fully transferable to the subsequent owner for a $50 fee. It can also be canceled at any time, and you will receive a full refund if you cancel it within the first 60 days.
The Drawbacks of the Alfa Romeo Extended Warranty
While you can request services from other FCA dealers, the dealership where you bought the vehicle should be your primary choice. To get another FCA dealer, you have to wait for your request to get approved, which can be an inconvenience when you are stuck on the road.
Vehicles used for aggressive off-road use, motorhomes, taxis, or limousines are exempted from the warranty. It also doesn’t cover modified vehicles, such as two-wheel drive vehicles converted to four-wheel drive.
MVP offers a variety of plans for both new and used vehicles, but if your vehicle is over four years old or has over 48,000 miles, you may not have many options to choose from. Also, for some models such as the Italian Alfa Romeo, the extended warranty is only purchased before the factory warranty expires.
Takeaway Value
Generally, the MVP plan seems to have come up with almost every type of coverage that will keep new and used Alfa Romeo owners cushioned from thousands of unexpected issues with the components.
It also has some great reimbursement plans if you ever need roadside assistance or a rental car when your vehicle is being repaired or maintained. However, the warranty doesn’t cover maintenance and wear items, but you should expect that with most manufacturers.
