Alfa Romeo is one of the FCA US LLC automaker brands, which also includes the Jeep, Ram, FIAT and Chrysler. This Italian luxury automaker provides a basic limited factory warranty that lasts for either four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Combined Coverage
Usually, car manufacturers provide two types of coverage in the factory warranty: bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage. Alfa Romeo, however, is an exception. It combines these coverages into one comprehensive coverage plan.
Alfa Romeo’s basic limited factory warranty is nearly all-inclusive (in that it covers almost all the parts of the vehicle). The engine, transmission, body, and all electrical components are protected. It also covers the car brakes, wiper blades, modular clutch assemblies, the windshield, rear window, wheel alignment, and balancing for one year or 12,000 miles.
This comprehensive coverage does not cover the tires nor any other item that is added to the car after it leaves the factory.
Extra Perks
In addition to the basic coverage, Alfa Romeo offers anti-perforation coverage for three years and unlimited miles if the vehicle’s metal panels rust from the inside out. If the finished outer-body metal panel rusts, the warranty covers it for five years with no limit in the mileage.
The Federal Emission Warranty covers the powertrain control module and the catalytic converter for eight years or 80,000 miles. Oxygen sensors, the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, transmission control module, vacuum hoses, and throttle body are only covered for four years/50,000 miles.
Lastly, in case the car breaks down, the Alfa Romeo’s roadside assistance program comes into play. This can provide free fuel delivery, battery jumpstarts, flat tire servicing, lockout services, and tow services to the nearest authorized Alfa Romeo repair facility. These services are available as long as the comprehensive warranty is still in effect.
What’s NOT Included with the Alfa Romeo Warranty
Even though Alfa Romeo’s limited warranty is all-inclusive, it does not cover everything in every situation.
For example, it does not provide coverage for any modifications, parts, or equipment that are not made by Alfa Romeo itself. It also doesn’t cover damages that are caused by environmental factors such as floods, acid rain, lightning or wind, and hailstorms.
Also, the warranty does not cover problems caused by collisions or owner neglect. Even routine car maintenance such as oil changes, engine tune-ups, and the replacement of related parts such as bulbs, spark plugs, fuses, and coolants are excluded.
The Good Things about the Alfa Romeo Warranty
One of the best things about the Alfa Romeo warranty is that it is nearly all-inclusive, with a coverage period that lasts longer than the industry’s standard length of three years/36,000 miles; the Alfa Romeo’s coverage is one year/14,000 miles longer.
In addition to this, the warranty coverage is transferable to the next owner of the vehicle free of charge, meaning they can recite the time and mileage remaining on the warranty when owners change. So, if you decide to sell or change the ownership of your vehicle within the first few years that are covered by the warranty, the resale value will be more than a typical used vehicle.
Its roadside assistance program can also come in handy for those times when you need help with a flat tire, a battery jumpstart, or instant towing services for your vehicle.
The Bad Things about the Alfa Romeo Warranty
The Alfa Romeo warranty fuses its bumper-to-bumper coverage and powertrain coverage into one big coverage, thereby reducing the powertrain coverage period you’d normally get.
Standard automaker warranties separate these two coverages, thus providing a longer term for the powertrain, engine, transaxle, and transmission. With the shorter powertrain coverage, you may end up paying more if something were to happen to these parts after the warranty period ends.
Like most standard automakers, Alfa Romeo also does not cover all components in all circumstances. So, if your vehicle has an issue that is not directly linked to a factory defect, you’ll have to deal with it yourself. This could be an insurance caused by collisions, fires, modifications, or harsh natural environmental conditions such as floods and hail storms.
Takeaway Value
Overall, Alfa Romeo’s basic limited warranty is long and comprehensive enough to cover you in case of unexpected issues with your car during the first few service years of the vehicle. This is in spite of the short powertrain coverage duration.
