Possibly excluding Rolls-Royce, no automaker has a better claim than Aston Martin to being the symbol of British luxury. It made James Bond what he is, and has set the standard for a premium vehicle for more than 100 years.

Yet even Aston Martins break down. Knowing even they can’t be perfect, the company offers an attractive extended warranty for their older vehicles. Today, we want to see if that warranty stacks up.

Coverage Basics of the Aston Martin Extended Warranty

The first thing to know is that Aston Martin’s extended coverage is neither a warranty nor a service contract, but both at once. It’s all rolled up in a plan called “Aston Martin Extended” and it includes all the coverages listed in this section. Aston Martin Extended pays for a wide range of repairs to be conducted at their official dealerships.

  • Comprehensive Coverage

The Extended plan can be applied to any Aston Martin model that’s less than 10 years old. You get to choose whether it lasts for one year or two years, and can renew at the end of each warranty period, or transfer the coverage to a new owner along with the vehicle’s title. Both the one-year and two-year plans come with no mileage limits.

Aston Martin’s warranty covers complete bumper-to-bumper repairs. In this case, “bumper-to-bumper” refers to the powertrain, brakes, steering, suspension, air conditioning, electric components, and supercharger, among other parts. Unlike many extended warranties, it also covers infotainment system problems and oil leaks.

Claims can be processed at any Aston Martin dealership, and never involve a deductible. Only qualified mechanics with specific certifications from the company are allowed to perform repairs. Having the whole Aston Martin system working in sync greatly lessens the possibility of a second breakdown.

Beware that extended warranty coverage isn’t available on every Aston Martin model, including some which can hold the factory or CPO warranty.

What’s NOT Covered in the Aston Martin Extended Warranty

Aston Martin’s extended warranty is awesome in some ways, and seriously lacking in others. While an unlimited-mileage warranty on cars up to 10 years old is pretty extraordinary, don’t let it blind you to what this warranty doesn’t cover: namely, roadside assistance, routine maintenance, or anything Aston Martin decides is a “wear item.”

  • Wear and Tear

It’s common for warranties and service contracts to exclude parts of the car that wear down naturally during normal use. Aston Martin’s warranty is no exception. This includes not only the tires, brake pads, and light bulbs, but also the paint, glass, and soft body components.

  • Routine Maintenance

The Aston Martin Extended Warranty does not cover regular service, such as oil changes, transmission flushes, and refilling windshield wiper fluid.

  • Roadside Assistance

The Aston Martin Extended Warranty does not cover roadside assistance. If you break down in the middle of a road trip, you’re on the hook for any repairs that need to come to you, like a jump start, tire change, or extra gas. Towing also isn’t covered. In general, you won’t start benefiting from this warranty until you’ve actually reached the Aston Martin dealership.

One other thing absent from this warranty is interruption coverage. If your Aston Martin requires repairs that will keep it at the dealership over one night or more, you’ll have to pay for your own meals, lodging, and alternative transportation.

The Advantages of the Aston Martin Extended Warranty

The biggest advantage of Aston Martin’s Extended plan coverage is that it covers vehicles up to 10 years old, with no mileage limits. Many car companies, especially in the luxury space, are reluctant to cover older cars, for fear they’ll have to pay out for repairs more often.

Aston Martin can afford to be generous because the average Aston owner doesn’t drive it very often. If you’ve ever known anybody with an Aston, they’re probably not using it to bring the kids to soccer practice; they’re just driving it every now and then to make an impression in swankier situations.

As an Aston owner with a bit more wanderlust, you can benefit hugely by bucking this trend. Feel free to rack up the miles on your Aston. If you break down, almost everything except normal wear and tear is covered without a deductible.

The other nice thing about this extended warranty is how easily you can make changes. When your period is up, Aston lets you renew coverage until you hit the 10-year limit. If you resell your Aston during that time, you can transfer the extended warranty to the new owner, which increases confidence in the vehicle and benefits its resale value.

Disadvantages of the Aston Martin Extended Warranty

In the last section, we mentioned that using your Aston for long trips is a good way to get the most benefits out of your extended warranty. Aston Martin doesn’t expect you to drive it very often, which is why they feel safe not limiting the warranty’s mileage.

There’s an unfortunate footnote to that warranty hack, though. With no trip interruption coverage, no roadside assistance, and the requirement that service only be conducted at Aston Martin dealers, you could be out thousands of dollars if you break down far from a major city. You can take your Aston on an awesome road trip, but if your oil starts leaking, don’t expect that quaint mountain town to have a British luxury car dealership.

We’re also unhappy to see that Aston Martin won’t pay for food, lodging, and replacement transportation. If they acknowledge that a failure is their fault by covering it in the warranty, they should do everything in their power to get you back on the road.

Takeaway Value

We should give Aston Martin credit where it’s due. The Extended contract is one of the more generous we’ve seen on a luxury car. Going up to 10 years, removing mileage limits, and covering a pretty extensive part selection are all nice touches.

That said, we’re distressed by the number of key coverages they’ve chosen to leave out. We recommend this warranty—it’s still great for covering repairs—but if you choose to take a long trip in a 9-year-old Aston, be aware of what you’re getting into.
