Many vehicles today have dashboard cameras. These are important gadgets that help record any event on the road as viewed through the car’s windshield. If your car doesn’t have one yet, do not fret. There are many third-party options on the market that you can install in your car. One of the best is AUKEY’s DR02 Stealth Dash Cam for Cars.

Product Description

The AUKEY DR02 Stealth Dash Cam is perfect for motorists who want a good combination of price and performance. It is a windshield-mounted camera that gives you a 170-degree sweeping view of the road in front. This is unlike other systems that come with limited field of view. The wide-angle view of the DR02 comes with very minimal distortions, especially around the edges.

The device comes with a Sony Exmor image sensor. It is only 2.19 megapixel, so do not expect the device to give you 4K-quality images. Both daytime and nighttime videos remain clear and crisp, however. Video comparison tests show that the DR02 fares a lot better than other systems with higher pixel resolutions. The color rendition is spot-on except for a bluish tint in certain instances. Its nighttime video recording capabilities are also better than other higher-priced brands.

The only downside to the AUKEY DR02 Stealth Dash Cam is the lack of wireless connection capabilities. It does not have a built-in GPS or Wi-Fi connectivity. As such, one will have to rely on the Micro SD in the device. With a maximum capacity of 128GB, you may not be able to record that much video without looping.

The visual footprint of the DR02 is a big plus, nonetheless. It is one of the most inconspicuous dashboard cameras you can ever mount on your windshield. One can adjust the angle of the camera to provide a better view of the road.

Overall, the AUKEY DR02 is an excellent dash cam for many motorists. It offers a great combination of performance and price.

How to Use

Installing the DR02 is easy. One only needs to remove the backing of the 3M double adhesive pad on the back of the device. Mount the dash cam onto the windshield. Plug the charger into the 12-volt socket of the car. You can also use the accompanying cable clips to secure the power cable. Connect the cable to the DR02’s mini USB port.

Make sure to insert an appropriate micro SD card and format it using the option in the DRO2’s Setup Menu. There is no need to power on the device. As long as you maintain the connection between the dash cam and the 12-volt power supply, it will run in an automatic fashion. To turn off the device, you will need to disconnect the cable.

There are different menu options in the DR02: Emergency Recording, Loop Recording, Time-lapse Recording, and Motion Detection Recording. You can go through each of these options by pressing the Setup button on the device. The DR02 comes with an Auto File Backup system that allows it to record “events” and protect them against being overwritten. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the gravity sensors via the Setup Menu.

To back up your video files yourself, you can press the Arrow Up key. To take a snapshot of the road while video recording, press and hold the Arrow Down key. You can also mute or unmute the audio recording capabilities of the device.
