The sports sedan world could have a new king soon enough. The long-heralded Bugatti Galibier sedan could still enter production, the super-luxury carmaker's CEO says—but the four-door is just one choice among four potential new models the company could launch in the near future.

In an interview with Australia's Drive (no relation), CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer let slip that the W16-powered Galibier hasn't slipped from his mind since he last talked about it in public at the Geneva Motor Show several months ago. "My heart continues to beat for this car, because we had some revolutionary approaches that no one to date has yet dared to place into production," he said.

Nevertheless, even having a tight grip on Dürheimer's heart doesn't mean the Galibier, which was first shown in 2009, is a sure bet. As a niche brand, Bugatti is only planning to add one additional model to its current lineup of one, and the big sedan is just one of the choices on the table. "At present I am following up four strategic ideas," he told Drive. "The Galibier is one. I can't talk about the others."

But other folks in the know, apparently, can. Citing anonymous sources within the Volkswagen A.G. empire, Drive suggests those three other "strategic ideas" for Bugatti are a sub-Chiron supercar, a futuristic electric car, and of course, a super-luxurious SUV that could throw shade on the upcoming Rolls-Royce off-roader.

We at The Drive cast our doubts on the latter option, however. Back during that Geneva interview where we last heard Dürheimer discuss the Galibier, he had a succinct response when asked if Bugatti would build an SUV: "No."
