So simple, so clean.

The Lotus Evora is a sports car hero of our day and age. Though, in many ways, it’s actually anachronistic. Refreshingly simple and with a clear mandate, it ticks all the boxes I want, with none of the baggage of owning another badge, and some reliability to boot. It has the combo we all ask for but then complain that it’s too “simple” (because we’re idiots). The Holy Commandment of Colin Chapman son is as follows: lightweight, mid-engined, supercharged Toyota V6, manual (!), and an above-all-else focus on driving dynamics. Bliss.

Picture Details:

  • Car(s): 2020 Lotus Evora GT (loaned to Misha Mansoor from Lotus, @mishaperiphery on Instagram)
  • Location: Angeles Crest Highway, Los Angeles, CA
  • Photographer: Ekaterina Gorbacheva (Instagram: @ekaterinagorbacheva.art)
  • Camera: DJI Mavic 2 drone “Baby Grevious”

This particular shot taken by my good friend Kate (@ekaterinagorbacheva.art on Instagram, go look!) was taken with a drone, and really highlights some of the less acknowledged things about car design. Overhead proportions, lines, and general design are forgotten with most passenger cars and even a lot of sports cars, but this Evora gets it just about right. Nice continuity of shut lines, good detail work, and a great overall coke-bottle profile that exacerbates the proportions of a decidedly small car. Good work Lotus! It’s no 720S but it is fabulous to look at and drive.

Modern NSX anyone? As big as we could get it:
