Owners of the iconic the Mazda Miata tend to be incredibly passionate about their cars and soon, the Japanese automaker will be taking applications from first-generation Miata—or Eunos Roadster—owners in Japan for restoration services their cars, For starters, this program will only be available in Japan, but we’re hoping that if it goes well enough the automaker will offer the same thing in North America.
A manufacturer restoration is normally reserved for premium brands like Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz. That makes it all the more impressive that Mazda, a relatively small brand known for volume cars, would offer this service. It goes to show that it takes the MX-5 very seriously and want to support the car’s enormous fan base.
In addition to restoration services, Mazda is also working with suppliers of the original parts to offer brand new parts made to their exact original specifications. For starters, they’ll be offering the original Bridgestone SF-325 tires, soft tops, and Nardi steering wheels and shift knobs.
Even though this service is currently only available in Japan, it’s fantastic news for Miata enthusiasts worldwide. It’s a big gesture by Mazda showing that it knows how much drivers love their Miatas and they want to keep them on the road for as long as possible. Pretty soon a showroom quality NA Miata will be more within reach than it has been in the past 20 years.
Hey, Mazda, this service is great and all, but it would have been really nice to have available a couple months ago.
