I was absolutely, thoroughly stoked to have picked up a 1997 Land Rover Discovery in decent shape. And I still am!

The previous owner signed away their ownership interest in this 1997 Land Rover Discovery in exchange for four-thousand of my hard-earned dollars late on a weekday evening last week. The deal was done; I wouldn’t be in search of a new project for a good, long while. I couldn’t wait to get everything regarding my ownership and insurance legit in the eyes of the law, and start slowly working on it.
Once that was all set, I took it down the street to one of my favorite photo locations in all of SoCal. I’ve actually taken photos of quite a few cars here; it’s great for lighting, is pretty empty in the early morning, and makes for a solid SoCal backdrop for any car. The beach, palm trees, warm and bright light, the works. It’s also very convenient for me to pop over to. It’s become a sort of tradition for me to park cars that I’ve been stoked to be behind the wheel of, the previous few being some fun press cars.
This photo conveys a lot for me. I’ll be doing fun active things with my new Disco, including ratchet-strapping my surfboard to the factory rack on top and taking it to the beach. Well, not the beach by me as a sea wall disallows the required waveage. But definitely beaches within a thirty-minute drive. It’ll make for a nice seat for putting shoes on, grabbing gear, and leaning against while chatting with pals, too. I’m excited for all of it. It was also taken in the early morning; I don’t get too poetic, but there’s symbolism behind a new day rising.
I can’t wait for the first time I park it at the beach, but also the first time drive it on a beach. And tons of other places.
