It’s expensive, but it’s more affordable than a Ford GT.

The 2022 Ford GT is the Dearborn brand’s official halo car, but I think the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is also fit for such a title.

Yes, I know, this kind of breaks the definition of what a halo car is. A halo should be a carmaker’s peak, most-engineered, and most-expensive offering. Something that represents the best of the best ideas that they’ve spared no expense in creating.

Technically, that’s the GT. However, in the long, proud history of production Mustang-based Shelby cars, the 2022 GT500 is the peak, top-shelf offering. It takes everything the badge has ever been about — a barely streetable terror and excitement — and offers it in the most technologically advanced package with the most jaw-dropping performance. The highest price tag as well. It boasts an 11.3-second quarter-mile time, is capable of going zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, offers a claimed 760 horsepower, and has a starting price of $74,095. That means the 500 is the fastest and most expensive Shelby ever.

Thus, I think it could be called Ford’s other halo car, one that’s much more attainable, as $74,095 is much less expensive than the GT’s starting price of $500,000. By the way, behind it is the Mustang GT RTR, which might be one of the rarest Mustangs ever. Only 500 will be (or have been?) made for the entire world market.
