An astute and wise photographer friend of mine turned to me a few nights ago and said “there’s no reason anyone has to actually buy alcohol in the city of LA on a Saturday night” as we were cheering some thoughtfully provided drinks from an open bar at another genre-bending event with Race Service. Not long after that, I meandered around and met friends from past lives and made new ones. Oh, there was also serious machinery around that I was snapping pictures of as well.

The premise of this event was a Porsche owners drive and meet-up organized by Race Service. One of my other friends, Misha with the Miami Blue GT3 Touring I drove a while back, actually participated in that earlier drive. Since I do not own a Porsche (tragedy, I know) I could only join for this absurd party in the evening. Normally I wouldn’t have high hopes for a parking lot car meet but Race Service tends to defy expectations.

They turned this parking lot rooftop into a fairly legitimate feeling outdoor nightclub, complete with stern-faced bouncers wired up with clear earpieces. There were lights, a live DJ and singer with a cameo from BJ the Chicago Kid (yes, for real), free burgers, and the aforementioned free libations. There was also a serious lineup of the best Porsche has to offer and some modded cars like Rod Chong’s 935X, pictured.

The running joke is that nobody knows what Race Service does, but I feel like their mission has always been understood. They’re a creative agency made up of some of the best talents in the business, but that isn’t the whole story. They also understand what popular culture means and feels like and they are the only people I’ve seen so far that have actually crossed the wires of car culture and culture at large. It’s remarkable.

Enjoy this shot. It will probably never happen again.
