This ultimate track car, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series, is limited to 55 units to mark the 55th anniversary of the AMG nameplate.

And sheesh, what an excellent occasion to signify. AMG has produced some epic cars throughout the years. If I had it my way, it would produce a special-edition vehicle for every year of its existence, including some neat throwback-styled units.
As you’d expect, the stats on this thing are insane. Its bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 produces a claimed 778 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, which is then sent through a sequential gearbox to the rear wheels exclusively. Along the way, these stout figures pass a carbon fiber safety cell built to FIA standards (so, a carbon roll cage), carbon fiber body trim, miscellaneous carbon fiber interior bits, and a massive carbon fiber wing. So, more carbon fiber than you can shake a Ferrari F40 at.
The power-to-weight ratio is pupil dilating, as it only weighs 3,086 pounds. That’s less than a McLaren 620R, which is essentially a GT4-class racecar for the road. Without a driver, each of the AMG GT Track Series’ individual horsepowers has just four pounds to carry along.
I can’t begin to fathom what it’s like to send one of these around the track at 10/10ths, but it’s gotta be epic. I’ll probably never get the chance myself, but that’s ok. I’m just glad Mercedes-AMG made it and I hope those who end up with one of these 55 models actually drives it on track.
