If you have an ATV that you want to protect during your downtime – during a harsh winter, for example – then an ATV cover represents a solid investment. It covers your ATV and, depending on the cover style, can help to protect it from several harmful elements such as wind, rain and even sunshine.

In this article we help to find the ideal cover to protect your ATV.

The Best ATV Cover

We kick off our list with this excellent entry from Coleman. This simple but effective 4-wheeler cover is just bursting with a range of features that we really like to see in products such as this.

The first thing to note is that this is an all weather model. That means it is waterproof for protection from rainfall but also has built in protection from harmful UV rays, providing protection from both rain and sun.

Key Features
  • UV Protection
  • Elastic Bottom
  • Includes Storage Bag
Specification
  • Brand Coleman
  • Model 2000007483
  • Weight 3.6 pounds

If you live in an area with high moisture, it could pay to invest in this next product from LotFancy. It is packing a whole heap of useful features, but the most useful relate to rain protection.

First of all it is very thick. 300 x 300D Nylon has been deployed in the construction, and when it is added to the double stitched reinforced seams you have an ATV cover designed to last and to keep the rain out.

Key Features
  • Available in 3 Sizes
  • All Weather Protection
  • Double Stitched, Woven Nylon Construction
Specification
  • Brand LotFancy
  • Model 10A-1358-F
  • Weight 2.85 pounds

Next we have this heavy-duty ATV cover from the Badass Moto Group, and oh boy does it live up to its name!

This cover is of a super thick style of construction. It is so thick that Badass states it offers protection from a wider list of elements than a typical cover. So in addition to rain and sun you also don’t need to worry about snow, pollen, mildew or even dust. That’s a very impressive level of protection backed up by useful features like a zippered access panel, allowing you to easily check your bike in storage.

Key Features
  • 3 Sizes
  • Extra Thick for Incredible Protection
  • Trailer Safe
  • 3-Year Warranty
Specification
  • Brand Badass Motogear
  • Model 4350347178
  • Weight 4.1 pounds

The key stand out feature on the next product on our list, this excellent ATV cover from OxGord, is the five layer polyester construction.

Of course, a five ply construction is going to be extra tough by default – there is just so much material to help protect your ATV from a huge range of elemental damage. This protection by the way extends to both rain and UV rays, which is always good to see.

Key Features
  • Five Layer Construction
  • 4 Sizes
  • Elasticized Front and Rear Hems
Specification
  • Brand OxGord
  • Model FBA_CATV-940-MM
  • Weight 3 pounds

While many ATV covers are designed for outdoor use, there are also a range of covers on the market that are perfect for use during indoor storage, inside a garage for example.

This product from Classic Accessories is one of these styles of cover. It lacks the UV protection of an outdoor cover but replaces that feature with a whole host of others. Perhaps the stand out is the superb buckle and strap system this cover is designed with.

Key Features
  • Extra Large Sizing
  • Integrated Storage Bag
  • Ideal Indoor Storage Cover
Specification
  • Brand Classic Accessories
  • Model 15-061-043804-00
  • Weight 4 pounds

The next product is from the imaginatively titled company XYZCTEM. Isn’t that a company name that really jumps out at you, huh?

Daft name aside, this is actually a very good and lightweight ATC cover with a number of good design points. The low weight is actually one of the standouts in fact. It has a weight less than half some of the thicker covers on this list, despite being an extra-large, 100-inch size.

Key Features
  • Extra Large Universal Size
  • Lightweight
  • Simple Installation
  •
Specification
  • Brand XYZCTEM
  • Model 8523810177
  • Weight 2.73 pounds

We are slightly surprised that it has taken us until well over half way in our list to get to the first camo ATV cover. When we were younger, it seemed all ATV covers featured a camouflage style design, but they seem to have trailed away in popularity ever since.

Still, here we have North East Harbor keeping that flame burning bright. Of course, the key stand out is the camo style design, which if you like it is clearly one of the best examples on the market.

Key Features
  • Camo ATV Cover
  • Excellent Breathability
  • Free Storage Bag
Specification
  • Brand North East Harbor
  • Model 8523810328
  • Weight 2.01 pounds

Well, what do you know? You wait ages for a camo ATV cover, and then two come along at the same time! This cover does in fact have a number of design points that makes it stand out from the other covers on this list in addition to the camouflage print exterior visuals, of course.

What we have here is another example of an ATV cover that is perfectly designed for indoor use. This cover provides good moisture protection without the UV protection that an outdoor cover requires. That means it is light and easy to install. It is also extremely breathable, perfect for indoor use where mold and mildew can build up under materials that don’t provide good air circulation.

Key Features
  • Ideal for Indoor Use
  • Water Resistant
  • Elastic Hem
  • 3x Sizes
Specification
  • Brand Dowco
  • Model DOWCO Guardian ATV Cover
  • Weight 3.25 pounds

We finish with this offering from Pilot. It is in many ways one of the simpler styles of ATV coverings available on the market and certainly on our list.

Don’t see that simplicity as a bad thing, though. Rather, this ATV cover may be simple and straightforward, but it is very effective. It is constructed of a tough but durable material that has good water protection abilities. It should be noted that it lacks UV protection, so it’s best suited for indoor storage applications, especially if you live in a very sunny area.

Key Features
  • 4 Sizes
  • Extra Durable Fabric
  • Water Resistant
Specification
  • Brand Pilot
  • Model CC-6214
  • Weight 2.9 pounds

Best ATV Cover Buying Guide

In our buying guide, we’ll take you through the features that you should keep an eye out for when picking out the best ATV Cover for you. After that, we’ll take a look at just why buying an ATV cover is such a good investment, before finishing up with a quick run down of the different types of quad cover products there are.

Things to Consider In an ATV Cover

There are a few things that you should bear in mind when selecting the right cover for you and your ATV, things such as:

  • Sizing

A big consideration is the sizing of the cover. If you buy a cover that is too small, then it will not cover the entire quad properly, potentially leaving parts of the bike exposed to damage. On the other hand, a cover that is too large will be difficult to secure closely to the ATV. That can allow moisture to seep underneath, potentially damaging the ATV.

  • Waterproof

Protection from water is really the minimum level of protection you should expect from your cover. Even an indoor cover will provide protection from moisture, something which is good to know in case your garage or shed suffers a mid winter roof leak!

  • UV Protection

You will normally only see this feature on ATV covers that are designed for outdoor use. It actually makes sense if you think about it, since the roof of the indoor storage will protect the ATV from UV damage. Whilst many people will of course realize that water protection is important, many people overlook the damage that UV light can cause. If you live in a sunny area and store your ATV outside we would strongly suggest that you ensure the cover you select has good UV damage protection.

  • Straps-Buckles-Elastic Hems

You are going to need to secure your cover to your ATV and it will be via a combination of these three components that you do this. Straps and buckles provide the most secure closures, though they can be harder and more time consuming to use. For indoor use, or short-term outdoor use, a cover with an elastic hem can be much faster to install.

Why You Should Use an ATV Cover

  • Protection

Probably the biggest reason that you should invest in an ATV cover is the simple reason that it provides bespoke protection to your machine. Where you live will of course dictate the level of protection that the cover must provide, and also what elements are most prevalent where you live – is it snow, rain, or sun that is most likely to damage your ride – or could it be a combination of all of them?

  • Easy Maintenance

Look we get it, ATVs are fun to ride! When you have an ATV you can rip around the countryside and off road having a great time. It’s why we buy ATVs in the first place. But do you know what is less fun? Having to perform regular maintenance on your ride. Whilst some TLC is of course needed to keep your ATV operating, let’s face it, anything that keeps maintenance time down is going to be welcomed.

Say hello then to the other big benefit of investing in a quality ATV cover. If you cover it up when not in use, you protect it from damage (see above). If you protect it from damage, you have to send less time cleaning and maintaining it. So that means more time enjoying the ATV and riding it, less time spent maintaining it. Not bad for an investment of only a few dollars!

Types of ATV Cover

To us, there are broadly two types of ATV cover on the market, Indoor and Outdoor. One thing to note is that many covers will state that they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. That is broadly true, but only in one direction.

What we mean by that is that a cover that is designed for use both inside and outside will provide the full range of protection against the elements. So that means that in addition to being waterproof, it is also able to protect against UV damage.

An ATV cover that is only suitable for indoor use will not provide UV protection – even if it states it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use!

We would also suggest that you don’t discount indoor only covers either, especially if you are actually looking to store your ATV inside – say in a barn, shed or garage. Because these styles of covers lack the UV protection found on other covers they are usually a little thinner in their construction.

That means that whilst they have enough material to protect your bike from the usual dangers of indoor storage – such as dust – they are light enough to let the bike and the air around it breathe. This can really help to protect against moisture build up, which can cause mould, mildew and even rust to form on the UTV.

Our Top Pick

Of all the quality ATV covers to make our guide, we really liked the Coleman MadDog all weather cover. As the name suggests it is an all weather model that protects from both rain and sun damage. It is easy to install, looks good without being eye catching and comes with nice extras like a 1-year limited warranty and a useful storage bag.

It simply ticks enough boxes in terms of quality design and construction to be our Top Pick for best ATV cover.
