Traditionalists, purists, and haters alike talk smack on the four-cylinder AMG cars because they don’t have four more cylinders and are therefore inferior. Hogwash.

The turbo-four AMG A35, with its 302 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque, and decent 3,480-pound curb weight is a total blast. It’ll reach 60 mph from a stop in around 4.5 seconds, it grips as well as much pricier hardware, and it’s just an outstanding daily all-rounder.

Plus, if you keep your foot out of it, which is sort of impossible due to being so fun, it’ll return decent gas mileage.

Otherwise, its only real bummer is its drivetrain. The Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive system doesn’t send enough power to the back wheels for any degree of slide potential. The A45 AMG can, in the right mode, but unfortunately, that’s not sold here.
