Although the Finnish tire manufacturer Nokian is best known for their high-quality winter tires, the eNTYRE 2.0 premium all-season tire is about to change that. Made for sedans, coupes, minivans and crossovers, and specifically designed for North America, this next-generation all-season tire promises to be budget- and eco-friendly, safe and comfortable. But is it really? Read on to find out.

Quick Overview

The Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 is a next-generation all-season tire that is designed to bring safety and comfort to drivers all around the world. Although it’s specifically designed for North America, anyone can use this environmentally friendly tire, as it offers perhaps the best value when it comes to the performance of all-season tires. They’re unquestionably one of the safest tires around, they provide a comfortable, smooth and quiet ride, have a good tread life, and are inexpensive. How is this possible?

It all comes down to the quality materials used to build eNTYRE 2.0, as well as its fantastic design. Here some of the most important features that need to mentioned.

  • New high modulus tread compound

A modern silica compound is included which uses the expanding molecular structure of the (regular) silica and rubber compound to strengthen the tread pattern and improve handling properties.

  • Silent wall technology

This refers to the special zone constructed on the sidewall of the eNTYRE 2.0, which cuts out excessive noise and vibration carried over from the pavement by the tire tread. Basically, silent wall tech helps reduce noise, vibration and instability, resulting in a truly stable, comfortable and pretty quiet tire.

  • Polished lateral and inside grooves

Although this tire contains fewer sipes than other Nokian tires, making it the best on dry roads, the design of the new lateral grooves helps improve their slushplaning and aquaplaning properties.

  • Comfort base compound

Thanks to an innovation called comfort base compound, this tire reduces vibration and heat build-up, which is reflected in ultimate comfort even on bumpy roads, as well as in better tread life, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.

  • Environmentally friendly

All Nokian tire, including the eNTYRE 2.0, use only purified, low-aromatic oils, making them one of the most environmentally friendly tires in the world. No matter how hard you look (and we’ve tried!), you won’t find toxic or carcinogenic chemicals in Nokian tires, which is certainly an important thing for our environment.

The Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 uses innovative designs and boasts quite a few impressive features, making it one of the best budget-friendly all-season tires on the market. Thanks to its new tread compound silica, plus a comfort base compound, it provides a really smooth and quiet ride, especially on dry roads where it really shines. But what about driving on wet roads, or some light snow? Although not perfect on wet roads, this tire provides really good wet grip and traction, even when driving in seriously bad weather. Snow – unsurprisingly for the Finnish Nokian which specializes in winter tires – is a piece of cake for this all-season tire.

But more on the tire’s detailed performance a bit later. To figure out if eNTYRE 2.0 is actually the right fit for you, let’s talk about its major advantages and disadvantages.

Pros & Cons

The eNTYRE 2.0 offers excellent value for money, but, like all tires we’ve ever reviewed, is not perfect. Still, we believe its pros far outweigh its cons, making the tire definitely worth purchasing. But we’ll let you decide that for yourself– to help you determine if eNTYRE 2.0 is right for you, we’ve outlined its most important advantages and disadvantages.

Performance

All the specifications and features aside, how does the Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 actually perform on dry, wet and snowy roads? Overall, we’d say it performs fantastically well to just okay, depending on weather conditions and how long you’ve been using the tire. If you’re interested in detailed reviews, read on.

  • Dry Performance

The eNTYRE 2.0 is undoubtedly one of the best performance tires on dry roads. Thanks to its high modulus tread compound, which ensures the tire is strong, durable and stable even on rough pavement, the handling is absolutely perfect on dry roads. Cornering, braking and acceleration are quick and easy, while the ride is smooth and sporty. In fact, we’d say that thanks to this new high modulus compound, the eNTYRE 2.0 has a pretty stiff pattern, delivering incredible confidence in cornering which is actually similar to the performance of much more expensive all-season tires.

Another bonus is the quiet, smooth and stable ride that this tire delivers. This is mostly due to silent wall technology which cuts out noise and vibration, and comfort base compound which provides a sort of a buffer between the bumps of the road and tire itself. These same features allow the tire to avoid excessive heat build-up, which reduces fuel consumption – a really important fact for folks on a budget.

  • Wet Performance

Because it’s engineered and built to withstand most weather conditions, the eNTYRE 2.0 also provides a good wet performance. Thanks to the tire’s polished lateral grooves, which not only allow the tire to store more water between the road and tire itself, but also accelerate water flow from the main grooves, the model has excellent aquaplaning and slushplaning properties. Interestingly, the eNTYRE 2.0 doesn’t have that many sipes, but because of the polished lateral and inside grooves, it provides a good wet grip and handling even when you’re driving on large pools of water.

It should be mentioned that although this model provides excellent wet grip and performs great in heavy rain, it’s less than perfect in light rain. This is mostly due to the polished lateral grooves which allow the tire to store more water – this is a great feature when there is already qa lot of water on the road, but is not ideal when there’s not that much. That said, the eNTYRE 2.0 does provide good traction in wet conditions. Most importantly, it’s next to impossible to aquaplane while using these tires.

  • Snow and Ice Performance

Nokian is famous for their high-quality winter tires, so eNTYRE 2.0 should deliver a great performance in snowy, cold winter conditions, right? Yes and no. When it comes to all-season tires (and this is, after all, an all-season tire), it’s unreasonable to expect fantastic snow and ice performance, since all-season models are simply not built to properly withstand very cold temperatures and icy roads. So, if you live in a colder climate with a lot of snow, you need to invest in special winter tires.

That all being said, when it comes to light snow and some ice on the road, Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 performs well, really well. This is mostly thanks to the new high modulus compound which helps strengthen the tread pattern and improve handling properties. Overall, we’re satisfied with the tire’s performance and traction on lightly packed snow and even on thin ice. Again, it’s worth repeating that when it comes to serious winter conditions, including heavy snow and lots of ice, no all-season tire is good enough, including the Nokian eNTYRE 2.0.

Compatibility

The eNTYRE 2.0 comes in various sizes, ranging from 15” to 19”, and there are three speed ratings: T, H and V. Lots of vehicles can fit this tire, including the following models (this is not a complete list).

  • BMW: 135i, 330i, 530i
  • Mercedes-Benz: E320
  • Mazda: 6, 3,929
  • Ford: Fusion, Focus, Taurus, Mustang GT
  • Hyundai: Sonata, Genesis
  • Toyota: Sienna, Solara, Prius, Camry, Avalon, RAV4
  • Subaru: Legacy, Impreza, Outback
  • Kia: Rondo, Optima
  • Chevrolet: Impala, Malibu, Cobalt, Cruze, Sonic LTZ
  • Honda: Civic, Accord, Odyssey, CR-V, Insight

Warranty

Like most all-season tire manufacturers, the Nokian provides a 60,000 or 80,000 mile tread warranty, depending on the tire’s speed rating. Made of quality materials, the eNTYRE 2.0 is strong and durable, with a very good tread life, although it should be said that in practice, tread life of any tire heavily depends on where and how you drive, as well as how well you maintain your tires.

Overall, considering the materials are backed for 5 years, this is a long-lasting, good quality, affordable all-season tire.
