There were plenty of times I would sneak out to go for a drive. I used to possess this strange immunity to fatigue while driving, so I would leave home late at night, drive for hours, and come back just before dawn. This is a frame from one of those times ages ago.

I got my learners permit as early as I could, which was when I was 15 years, six months old. Those first few years of driving are just having fun, going places, discovering new things, and finding new roads. All I had to drive was my mom’s 2015 Jetta TDI and my dad’s 2012 Honda Accord EX. Decidedly non-sporty cars.
Still, I had nothing better to do in 2016. I once took that same Accord to a track day without my dad ever finding out. I actually took my mom’s Jetta on track last year too. I have an unspoken affinity for underdog cars, because I swear that my dad’s Accord had no business mobbing in the canyons the way I did, and my mom’s Jetta has nicer steering than you could ever ask for in a cheap economy car.
That same desperation to learn about driving around corners took me to a lot of interesting places at the end of a nice drive. If my memory serves me, this is a photo I took after one of the first times I drove the entire length of the Angeles Forest Highway to Los Angeles, and I decided to pay the big city a quick visit. To this day, I love a good late-night drive to my favorite city in the world.
As big as we could get it:
