The Best and Worst Thing About LA Night Driving: Everything Closes at About 10 PM | Autance

Doing a car-based photoshoot here requires two people and light feet, at least if you want to keep it cheap.

I love Los Angeles. It’s the only city I’ve ever really known, lived in, and felt a connection to. It’s my home. The best and worst part of LA is that everything closes at about 10:00 p.m. so the roads and freeways empty out early, but the late-night food options can be limited but still punchy. My favorite time in Los Angeles is around 9:00 p.m. on a weekday, right after I get my favorite french dip from Phillipe’s downtown, and I have the city to myself. This photo was a moment of amniotic peace in the semi-sleepy city.

LA also has no shortage of interesting parking garages, this shot coming from the top of the famous spiral garage on Hill Street, amongst half-empty condominiums in a gentrified district of downtown. While the spiral bit is interesting and a cool photo op, the top of the garage gives a secluded panoramic view, like a fish in a tank.

The only real problem: It costs a fortune to park there. It’s something like $15 after 20 minutes, though my memory is hazy on prices because I sorta just swipe the card and submerge myself in the vibes. Doing a car-based photoshoot here requires two people and light feet, at least if you want to keep it cheap.

This is one of a few of my favorite spots in the city. I’ll have to remember to take pictures of my car at the others. Time for another long, peaceful drive. As big as we could get it:
