As simple and over-done shots like this are, I still love taking them. They remind me some of my best experiences.

I snapped this about two years ago during a quick weekend trip up to Mammoth Lakes with my good buddy Chris. We left on a Saturday afternoon to head up and shoot a bunch of photos and then return on Monday evening. We rented a four-door Jeep Wrangler for the occasion, too; some of the spots we were looking to hit up truly required four-wheel drive, both high and low. This was an excellent decision, as the high-sitting goat really had its work cut out for it climbing up some rocky hills to get the ideal vantage point.
It could not have been a better weekend. Gorgeous weather, breathtaking views, hilarious conversations, tons of photos, and all in an area of the country I had never seen before. We schlepped all over Mammoth Lakes, Lake Crowley, and Mono Lake on Sunday; now that I think about it, I’m amazed we filled the day up with so many locations and still had time to find breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Again, this photo was taken en route during a gorgeous sunset at the very southern tip of the Eastern Sierra Mountains. The open road in front of us filled us with excitement and motivation, like a sort of welcome mat inviting us up to this truly gorgeous part of the country. I’m sure many people reading this have experienced something similar with a clear, open road in front of them.
I can’t wait to go back some day.
