Columbus is an ugly, boring, average city. It’s geographically flat, architecturally boring, and most roads are straight-line suburban sprawl. Honestly, I struggle with photographing cars where I live because there are so few photogenic settings in Columbus. That’s why I’m heavily reliant on parking deck photoshoots.
Cleveland, on the other hand, is a much older, more geographically interesting city, and it has plenty of viewpoints that make for great photos. Relax, y’all, the drawbridge is out of service, so I was not blocking traffic.
- Car: Fiat 500 Abarth
- Location: Cleveland, OH (The Flats)

I’ve put about 11,000 miles on my Abarth, mostly trouble-free. Sometimes, my driver’s side daytime running light (DRL) decides to work when it wants to, and my aftermarket radio will randomly reset itself. Other than that and the rear shocks I suspect are tiring out, the Fiat’s been solid.
Now, I’ve been participating in Columbus slander, but that’s likely because I’m so tired of living here. Cleveland is smaller and rougher, but the people are kinder, more down-to-earth, and more honest. This picture was taken in The Flats, a nightlife district in the heart of downtown, right near a body of water, adjacent to the basketball stadium and baseball field. I was only there to take photos, but the energy was palpable, and people were excited to be out. In the 15 minutes or so the Fiat was in the street, people smiled, and waved, supportive of my fiery city car shenanigans.
