I shot this photo at the Long Beach Grand Prix about 30 minutes before the 2021 International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Weathertech Sports Car Championship stepped out onto the city-street-circuit by the sea for its 2021 installment.

  • Car: Acura NSX GT3, Aston Martin Vantage GT3
  • Location: Southern California

  • Camera: Canon 6D + Canon EOS 35-70mm EF Zoom

The NSX is a particularly potent platform in its class, GT Daytona, which is essentially the internationally recognized class of GT3 with some minor changes. It features the street car’s same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 behind the driver, but loses its electric motors. After the usual racecar prep, such as adding race suspension, safety equipment, and shedding a lot of weight, it’s then ready to duke it out with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3R, Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Lexus RC F GT3, and more.

When it comes to the golden rule of All Cars Look Better As Racecars, the NSX is actually largely missed by this. Not because it looks worse as a racecar, but because the road-going and race-going variants look so much alike, which is very much a good thing.
