Penn Auto Insurance Overview

Before buying Penn’s warranty, you need to be sure of the miles you usually drive per month, the estimated repair costs throughout the life of your vehicle, and the duration you are willing to keep the vehicle. This information will help you determine the most favorable policy you can fall under. The available policies are as follows:

  • Basic: This is the most affordable policy available and will help keep your vehicle in good shape by covering the basic components. This includes the engine, transmission, steering components, suspension, electrical systems, cooling systems, brake components, transfer case and internal parts, seals, and gaskets. You can either choose a six-month or 7,500-mile cover or a 36-month or 45,000-mile cover.
  • Standard: This is an improvement on the basic cover, and covers more differential and electrical components, including front axle joints on four-wheel drives, power seat motors, power window motors, and power door lock actuators. It’s an unlimited mileage cover.
  • Gold/Platinum: In addition to the parts covered in the standard policy, the Gold or Platinum policy also covers the air conditioning system. It’s an unlimited mileage cover, and also includes emergency roadside assistance services.
  • Elite: This is a premium cover that has no restriction on mileage. It’s Penn’s most comprehensive policy and covers all parts covered in the Gold Policy. The main difference is that it covers more parts than the aforementioned policies when it comes to the engine, differential, steering, electrical, suspension, and air conditioning system. Other unique parts covered include coolant leaks and damages to the fuel delivery system.

You don’t have to take your vehicle to a specific repair facility, but instead, you can choose the nearest repair facility. The chosen repair facility will be considered to be qualified since you chose it. Also, nothing changes, with regards to the parts covered, after you renew your contract despite the age of your vehicle.

Insurance Costs

Penn’s insurance costs are not determined by your vehicle’s age or mileage, but your vehicle’s retail value. This makes it hard to put a price on the type of policy. However, you can contact the customer service team via the contacts provided on the website to get an estimate.

Once you take out a claim for the repair, Penn’s customer service will contact the repair facility to get an estimate after verifying the failure. There’s a “per occurrence charge” or deductible whenever you visit a repair center. The deductible is $100 and is only charged once even if you get more than one repair done per visit. In case you want to sell your vehicle, the remainder of the policy is transferable at a $100 fee.

Things We Like

All the services you need, whether to purchase a contract, request roadside assistance, or make a claim, are only a phone call away. Penn Warranty has a team of customer service providers that provide consistent service.

It takes less than seven days to know if your service contract has been accepted. After acceptance, you are allowed to purchase Penn’s extended warranty after 30 days of the purchase date of your vehicle.

The Penn Warranty doesn’t restrict you to a specific repair service provider. You are allowed the freedom of taking your vehicle to any competent repair shop that is closest to you. You can also request to get the repair payments directly instead of having the service provider pay the repair shop directly.

Also, it’s one of the few warranties that covers wear items that are worn past the manufacturer’s service limits. The wear items include rings and valve guides.

Things We Don’t Like

The warranty is not available to all types of vehicles. To be eligible, your vehicle must have a resale value of over $2,500, and PWC has to approve of the vehicle. Also, most luxury vehicles, vehicles over one ton, hybrid vehicles, and collectibles are not eligible for the warranty. This includes Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Bentley, M-Series BMW, Land Rover, Range Rover, and Rolls Royce.

Although you can choose your repair facility, you have to call before opening a claim about repairing your vehicle. The downside to that is that the customer service isn’t available 24/7. They are only available from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The warranty is not a bumper-to-bumper cover. Even the most comprehensive policy only covers essential powertrain components and systems in the vehicle. Also, breakdowns or repairs resulting from pre-existing problems are not covered in the warranty, and only vehicles under the Elite policy get a full diagnostic check at the beginning of the cover.

Is Insurance from Penn Auto Warranty Worth It?

The Penn Auto Warranty offers a good protection plan for vehicles despite their age or mileage. It’s also flexible and comes with different policies to suit the budget of the motorist. You can choose from basic coverage to more comprehensive protection for most parts of your vehicle, including roadside assistance.

One of the imitations of the cover is that not all types of vehicles are covered so you have to call to confirm if yours is on the list of the covered vehicles. Besides that, it’s a cover worth investing in if you want a prolonged relationship with a trustworthy warranty provider.
