It might be big and heavy, but it can slice through corners with the best of them.

I couldn’t believe the text before my eyes when I read that this thing weighs 4,200 pounds. I could have sworn it felt more like the size of the Hyundai Elantra N DCT I’ve driven in the past, which comes in at 3,296 pounds.

The way the S confidently dances through twisty roads is so impressive. It has Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) assisting it along the way, plus independent double-wishbone front suspension, adaptive dampers, and big front brakes to help reign in G forces, but still.

The engine and turbo are almost entirely in front of the front shock towers, it’s as long as a slow-rolling freight train, and 4,200 pounds is nearing straight-axle off-roader territory. And yet, the Type S can boogie with sure-footed acceleration and surprisingly minimal body roll into, through, and out of winding corners. You feel the heft, but the big sedan somehow keeps it under control. Traction control on or off. The sensation doesn’t feel sharp or precise, just planted. I usually favor sharp, light, and precise, like what you feel in the Lotus Evora GT, but this is almost just as fun and even more impressive.
